The Camino, Heming-Way traces the first part of the French way starting in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port on the French border to Pamplona. This unique walk is arguably one of the most scenic, challenging and rewarding of all the itineraries we offer.

And now, it can also be a unique journey through time and literature!

In only four days, you will experience French gastronomy, cross the Pyrenees, discover the legendary Basque country and arrive in one of Hemingway?s favourite Spanish cities: Pamplona, where he wrote a masterpiece ?The Sun Also Rises. You will also stop near Burquete, on the Irati River, where Hemingway was fishing for trout and resting before the San Fermin Festival. Then, at arrival in Pamplona, you will visit the city on the footsteps of Hemingway: have a drink in Café Iruna, take a picture at the Hemingway Monument and enjoy the local specialities favoured by Ernest Hemingway.

5th of July - To Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port ? France

Your journey in the footsteps of Hemingway starts in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, a beautiful bustling French market town hidden away in the Pyrenees and the traditional start of the Camino de Santiago. Admire the engraved doorways on the Rue de la Citadelle, cross the Porte de St Jacques and enjoy fine Basque cuisine before spending the night in a delightful small 3* hotel in the city centre.

6th of July - Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port To Burguete (7h, 26km)

The Heming-Way kicks off with a challenge as you cross the Pyrenees and walk into Spain. Expect a steep climb, wonderful landscapes, orchards and Alpine style meadows. On your way down, stop in the historical town of Roncesvalles before arriving in Burguete, "an oasis that exists outside linear time." The place Jake and Bill from ?The Sun also Rises? enjoy five days of tranquillity fishing trout in the Irati river.

 7th of July ? Burguete to Zubiri (7h, 18km)

Another day of stunning mountain panoramic views awaits you today as the Heming-Way crosses two beautiful mountain passes and follows the river Arga down to Zubiri. With less hiking you might even be able to take some time to fish under a centennial oak tree or relax in the clear waters of the Rio Erro.

8th of July - Zubiri to Pamplona (6h, 21km) ? Beginning of the Feria

On your last walking day before arriving in Pamplona you will continue along the Arga River through riverside woods. It is in this region fighting bulls and horses are bred for the San Fermin and probably where this famous picture was taken (don?t try it yourself).

On arrival in Pamplona, you will be surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the San Fermin Festivities. We will treat you to a gorgeous dinner and a fireworks display!

You are staying in a stylish Hotel!
