 Arrival in Acquapendente

You will stay in a traditional hotel in the heart of the historic town of the ?Hanging Water". Gracious and charming, this town juxtaposes both beautiful architectural and natural features, as Duomo and Rufeno Mountain. Visiting the surrounding area, you will notice the strong influence of the Etruscan and Roman civilizations. Visit the Cathedral (1149), the Watch Tower, a remain of the Imperial Castle and the church of St. Francis.

 Acquapendente to Bolsena (5h, 22km)

Your first days walk will be along a trail which will take you down to the banks of the river Paglia. From here there is another short climb followed by an undulating track to Bolsena. You will pass through the important agricultural town of San Lorenzo Nuovo. The town has a wealth of artistic and historical sites of importance. Walk along the beautiful Lake of Bolsena to the town of the same name where you will spend the night.

 Bolsena to Montefiascone (3h, 14km)

This second walking day is dedicated to relaxation as you only have 3 hours walking through rolling hills, farmland and woodland. As you gradually move upwards you will have breath-taking views back over the lake. Spend the afternoon visiting Montefiascone a bustling town with many interesting sights with the Cathedral being the highlight. The local gastronomy and wine will also be part of the highlight of the day.

 Montefiascone to Viterbo (4h20, 19km)

Today you will travel accross the beautiful countryside of the province of Viterbo. You will pass Bagnaccio and its thermal pools (stop for a dip!) all the way to the beautiful old town of Viterbo, home of a Papal Palace and the Cathedral of San Lorenzo. Lying close to the Cimini Mountains, between the Lakes of Bolsena and Vico. The city offers many alternatives from art to traditional cuisine, from medieval and renaissance architecture to thermal spas nearby.

 Viterbo to Vetralla (4h30, 20km)

Today will be a mixture of country lanes bordered by vineyards and olive groves, fields and woods as you walk from Viterbo to Vetralla, a fortified town in the heart of the ancient Etruscan territories.

Vetralla to Sutri (5h, 22.5 km)

After leaving Vetralla, you will need to cross a forest to get to the Church of the Virgin of Loreto.  You will then walk through extensive hazel groves, passing monumental oaks, to arrive at the Orlando towers, ruins of an ancient monastery.  In the afternoon, you will traverse the charming town of Capranica, and finally reach the walled town of Sutri, known for its Etruscan amphitheatre and archaeological park.

 Sutri to Campagnano ( 5h20, 24.3km)

Start the day by walking along country lanes and tracks to the village of Monterosi, near a beautiful lake with an expanse of water lilies. Rest and have a refreshing paddle in the Monte Gelato waterfall park area. Then enter Veio Park, a protected area, and follow a riverside track through woodland to the hilltop town of Campagnano.

Campagnano to (Isola farnense) La Storta (5h30, 24.4km)

Leaving Campagnano you will enjoy panoramic views over the beautiful countryside of Lazio before going back into the Veio Park where you can visit the Sanctuary of "Madonna Del Sorbo". Pass through the walled old town of Formello and you take tracks through fields down to the river Valchetta, on to charming Isola Farnese and onwards to La Storta.

La Storta to Rome (3h30, 15.8 km)

This last stage of your trip crosses the suburbs to arrive at the centre of Rome. You also pass through Monte Mario Park where you have amazing views of the entire city of Rome and can admire for the first time the dome of St Peter's church.  Then you descend to Vatican City and St Peter's square - your final goal!

 Rome

Welcome to Rome, the eternal city! The Italian capital will fascinate you with its history, art, culture and tradition.  Your trip ends here but, if possible, we recommend that you spend more time in the city.  The Vatican, Colosseum, Trevi Fountain,  Pantheon, and Piazza Navona are just some of the many unforgettable sights in Rome.
