Camino Frances - Section Easy Days 65km

Camino Frances - Section Easy Days 65km map

From Palas do Rei to Santiago de Compostela (7 Days/6 Nights)

Our "Easy Days" trip makes it possible to absolutely everybody to experience the Way of St James / Camino de Santiago and reach the world-known Santiago de Compostela. On an "Easy Days" trip, walking days are shortened to an average of 3 hours/13 kilometres. You can also decide how to organise your day, starting at the time you like with no pressure about starting too early. The daily walk will fill a half day, leaving the other half free. With this walking holiday, you will have a chance to walk the last 70 kilometres to Santiago de Compostela and still experience the feeling of being a pilgrim of modern times.

On this section, we follow the last 65 kilometres of the French Way / Camino Frances, the most traditional of all the pilgrims' ways to Santiago de Compostela and the best known internationally. The journey starts in Palas do Rei, passing through Melide well-known for its Galician seafood gastronomy, and continues all along the French Way, through the green hilly landscapes of Galicia, eucalyptus woodlands, and typical rural villages.

Everyday, during the walk, you are guaranteed a high level of comfort and gastronomy. The Camino is clearly marked with the ?Scallop Shell? showing you the way. We have split the stages to short distances, so daily walks are of 13 kilometres on average, which means there are accessible to absolutely everybody.

Getting There:

To Palas do Rei and from Santiago de Compostela: Santiago de Compostela airport with Aerlingus or Ryanair (can book return flights).

Day 1 - Palas do Rei

You will be booked in a hotel in the heart of the lively town of Palas do Rei. The rooms are en-suite.

Day 2 - Palas do Rei to Melide (3h30, 14km)

Today, the Camino continues slightly downhill, passing the village of Casanova and the charming village of Leboreiro. At Melide (454m), stop in one of the many restaurants to try some local specialties.

Day 3 - Melide to Arzua (3h30, 14km)

This is the perfect start as the stroll quickly leaves Melide and heads off to the quiet countryside, along forest track and through a few hamlets. At Boente de Ariba, you will pass by the ancient church of Santiago before continuing through a forest track and reaching Catanada. You will then cross a few streams, and the last stretch to Arzua is an long uphill bit. Once in Arzua, you can then relax in the hotel.

Day 4 - Arzua to Rua-O Pino (4h30, 18km)

This shaded section of the Camino will pass through woods, along streams and through sleepy villages. Take your time and visit the chapel of Santa Irena, with its unique statues of Santiago. The rest of the way to Rua/Opino is on a good and quiet country road. Rua (310m) is one of the less crowded stopping points before Santiago de Compostela.

Day 5 - Rua to Lavacolla (2h30, 10km)

The first few kilometres after Rua are mainly spent through wood and farmlands, on forest tracks and quiet country roads. After passing through the hamlet of San Paio, a few steep uphill bits lead you to Lavacolla, a long established landmark on the Camino.

Day 6 - Lavacolla to Santiago de Compostela (2h30, 9.5km)

Lavacolla was once the last village crossed by pilgrims before reaching their ultimate goal in Santiago. Leaving it behind you, you continue up and down through the quiet countryside before reaching the famous Monte de Gozo where pilgrims used to see the cathedral for the first time after weeks of walking. Quickly after it, you will enter the city of Santiago! (more info on Santiago)
