Camino Tours Testimonials and Stories
Bernie and I are old University friends, who live a long way from each other. The camino experience was the perfect way to spend unhurried time together.
We walked and talked, we sang together (and we got other walkers singing with us). We met wonderful people and at times had one person walking with us for the whole day(especially Francesca from Belgium and Bettina from Germany). At times (although we had day packs only) we carried full packs for some walkers who were struggling with sore feet or achilles tendon problems (even though they were 25 and we are both around 70 !). The hotels were great – quite a variation - but each one perfectly satisfactory and the the Parador, Torre de Reis and San Francisco were exceptional. There were absolutely NO problems with the couriers for our baggage and we always managed to find our hotels. The weather was wonderful – only one big downpour of rain- but even that was pleasant because it was not windy or cold. THE FOOD WAS WONDERFUL – especially the octopus and the white anchovies in vinaigrette.
The breakfasts in most of the hotels were great and kept us going for most of the day. We often didn’t need lunch. We finished the walk in better shape than we started I think. I can heartily recommend Follow The Camino and el camino portugues costal and am doing so to all and sundry who will listen. Once again
Thanks must go to you and to Follow The Camino for facilitating a most wonderful experience.

"I have no hesitation in recommending the guys from FollowTheCamino.com. From start to finish they organised our trip with great attention to detail, which left us with more time to enjoy our adventure. They also advised the best route to suit all our fitness levels.
Umberto and Alberto were such a pleasure to deal with and great fun, and they made sure everything went like clockwork on the trip. They gave great advice before we left and while we were there, and I think they're the ultimate professionals" Andrea Smith, Journalist - Ireland.
"The Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre Camino 2014 trip was made special by the great accommodation organised by Follow the Camino.br />We stayed in really friendly hotels and Rural inns. The food we had was always good. We got to taste some great local food and drinks.
This played a big part in everyone mixing so well and making it a very special Camino for the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre." Ann Tracey, Fund-raiser & Co-ordinator - Ireland.
The Camino trip was an amazing experience, I know it can mean very different things to different people but there was one thing that connected us all together, and that is that it is a very unique experience, a walking holiday like no other. For me every single frame was beautiful and inspiring as we walked. I loved the one-way nature of the Camino, which for me represents leaving the past and always walking toward future,I felt that the meditative act of walking, the nature, and the friendships we made along the way has been one of the most amazing experiences ever and it was a joy sharing it with Umberto and everyone.
Umberto and his team have been of great help during the organisation of the trip, and I got to know Umberto better as we walked together along the way. He has been very helpful and flexible during the trip supporting us all with our guide Maria Jesus. He helped make this trip special and something that we will definitely do again, as it really helped raise awareness and funds for The Rise Foundation.
Thank you Umberto, we are all deeply grateful to you for your hard work." Frances Black, Senator & CEO of The Rise Foundation - Ireland
We completed our Tour du Mont Blanc Tour today and want to thank you all at One Foot Abroad for your excellent work.
All the bookings worked well and our luggage arrived every day. We just said "Follow the Camino" and our name and we were greeted warmly.
Our favorite accommodation was Splendide Hotel in Champex. Welcoming staff, huge room, and superb food.
We also especially liked Le Dahu in Argentiere.
We would advise a sleeping liner for the alburgues unless one does not mind sleeping under duvets that may not be clean. Also, a towel is needed at Elisabetta. We would recommend Follow the Camino to anyone planning a trek and especially you personally. Your advice and personal attention were so important and appreciated! Feel free to use our photo in front of Mont Blanc and/or recommendations.

On my Camino trip I dealt with Patricia and the crew and they were excellent to deal with. I was so unsure of my needs to begin with and made so many changes to my trip, including dates and times and places but all my changes were dealt with promptly and professionally. I was delighted with my choice of Follow The Camino.
All went like clockwork, including the pick up at the airport, and the luggage drop to the various accommodations.
If I had one suggestion for Pilgrims I would suggest learning some words in Spanish, you will be in rural Spain and a few words in the local lingo will go a long way. Just my opinion, mind.
I loved my trip and would go again in the morning. Totally recommend the Follow The Camino crew. John Dillon, Pilgrim - Ireland.
Our 240 km walk of the Camino Santiago has come to an end. Many thanks to Shenda O'Hare and Follow the Camino. The trip was well planned, baggage transfers seamless, and booked hotels contacted if there were any problems. The places to stay on our pilgrimage were excellent. The few bumps regarding noise and heat couldn't really be helped until the Spanish invent window screens and realize a fan in every room is a fine idea.
Having meals included was a good idea and special recognition to Parada das Bestas. Full stars. And if you can, accept a room (3rd floor if possible) at Parador in Santiago. Outstanding! It transports one to another century.
So, thanks again and Buen Camino. A transformative 2 weeks for both of us. Jamie and Flo McIvor - UK
Great, fun, holiday in spite of the obvious difficulties of traipsing up very steep hills, down hills, sliding on rough paths, tripping over tree roots, standing waiting for help across slightly perilous crossings over streams - the great thing being that there were always some willing hands to help. I am a 69 year old lady, with some minor disadvantages - I am an insulin dependent diabetic and partially sighted!! We were a small group of 6 - quite diverse but we became good travelling buddies (even though I was too slow to walk with them!!!) Our team leader Geraldine O'Callaghan was fantastic - pretty, bubbly, tireless - efficient and very kind. She looked after me during those 6 days, like a mother hen and on the last day, arranged for the whole group to wait for me at the Mount of Joy, so we could walk the last 5k into the city of Santiago together. Arriving at the great cathedral of Sant Iago was an exhilarating, emotional finale to a completely mad week. Joan Flynn, retired - Ireland
I just wanted to write you a note to thank you for helping us plan our journey in Spain. What a wonderful time we had trekking through the countryside. The places we stayed were wonderful, especially the Caomplejo la Cabana outside Palas De Rei. Had a spectacular dinner there!!! Great place. Had a terrible thunderstorm that night and we lost power, but we were able to dress the next morning for a very rainy day because I had brought a flashlight in my luggage. We also loved the Casa Brandariz. Great Dinner there and a great place to stay. Loved the Casa de Acivro. The lady had a new puppy (Rocky) we had so much fun and met some walkers that we will keep in touch with for life. Everything was just what we had hoped it would be. I had to call Sylvia(from Follow The Camino) one day but only because we lost our information for our hotel one day. She helped us out quickly and we were able to get there easily.
Please feel free to use us as a recommendation. We LOVED our trip!!!! Georgia Meckes - USA.
Thank you Umberto and crew. It was an absolute pleasure to have you make our arrangements, and support us so magnificently along the way in our efforts to raise awareness for Well Ways and the need to de-stigmatise mental illness. You are all fabulous!!!! Love from "down Under"!! Cheryl McInnes of Well Ways Mental Health Charity - Australia.
