Camino Tours Testimonials and Stories
French Way - The full 800km to Santiago
We began our pilgrimage in St. Jean Pied du Port, some 800 km from our pilgrimage destination of Santiago. Along the way we were relieved to have made arrangements for hotels and meals for the entire way with Follow the Camino. All of their choices for accommodation were first rate. From beautiful amenity-filled hotels in the cities to intimate farmhouses in the country, we were always happy with their choices. If, and it was rare, the accommodations were not exactly inspiring, it was because in the Spanish countryside you sometimes have limited choices, depending on where you find yourself. We chose to carry our won bags, and we are glad we did; however, they do have a luggage transfer service that seemed to work smoothly.
I would certainly recommend Follow the Camino to anyone who was making the pilgrimage to the tomb of St. James

I booked with this company. 30 days hotels along the way (I know not cool, but I am to old to say dorm style). All the hotels were excellent. Also I rode a bike for 5 days and they provided that seamlessly. Overall, I did not encounter a single inconvenience along my Camino from St.Jean Pied deport to the "end of the world" via Santiago
Hi Sandra Just to let you know that I am home safely as of Monday.... What a wonderful Camino experience & so proud that I was able to complete the journey as planned...it really is quite an undertaking.... Met so many terrific people, saw great scenery & tested my perseverance.... Thanks for your help in planning this trip....all went smoothly with “Follow the Camino”...
Camino Frances - Walk Section 1 - Saint Jean Pied de Port to Pamplona - 69 km
We walked from St Pied to Logrono and had our luggage taken to each point. It was so worth it. The entire process was seamless and easy. The majority of places we stayed were good to excellent in quality. Los Arcos was the only disappointing accommodation but then there was so little choice. Overall it was great and I would highly recommend.

Hi Sylvia Just a note to say thank you for your help with booking the camino we had a wonderful time and a really fulfilling trip!!! Hopefully will do another stage next year:-):-)
Absolutely superb four days walking with Follow the Camino Walk Section 1. The hotels were fantastic, food and service excellent. All accommodation was very centrally located. Overall fantastic experience.
We thoroughly enjoyed our walk in every way. Stop off in Orisson was well worth it- we got a chance to meet others and experience staying in a hostel and it broke us into the walk gently. The accommodation was excellent along the way also. We will definitely be back to do more walking next year.
Thank you to Eva and all the team for your support and advice.
P.S. Eva, our stay in san Sebastian was wonderful we loved every minute of it- so, it was an excellent holiday all around!
On the whole way was a very good programme, even if not all the accommodation units and restaurants were the same standard.
Very positive experience.
Camino Frances - Walk Section 2 - Pamplona to Longrono - 95 km
Dear Follow the Camino, We would like to thank you for the arrangements made for our last trip on the Camino de Santiago. Everything went perfectly well, as on all of our four trips. We have now completed the French Way. We have recommended you to several of our friends. We would especially like to thank you for the welcoming bottle which greeted us on our final night. This was very much appreciated. Please pass on our thanks to Sandra for all her help. Best Wishes, Lesley and Glyn
This section was our last for this year, and we were fit, well-practiced in our daily routine and raring to go, with many new friends accrued along the way. As per usual, all the stops were fine, with nice, if simple, places to stay, and continuing good food. All the arrangements by Follow The Camino worked fantastically, and we would thoroughly recommend the company, their organisation and the hotels, etc, they choose, to anyone.
Our only thought from a personal point of view was that there were several quite short days (around the 20k mark) on this and second half of the last section - which might suit some, but "hardened" pilgrims were perhaps looking for a bit more challenge by now. That's not a criticism, more an observation, and everyone will be different - just our thoughts on our own circumstance.
I loved the holiday! The notes were informative and valuable. A minor problem at one hotel was fixed immediately when we contacted the One Foot helpline. How an organisation responds to a problem is a good test of its integrity and reliability. I loved the holiday and was very impressed at how well everything went. It was also excellent value for money.
Camino Frances - Walk Section 3 - Longrono to Burgos - 23 km
First Few Days Back On The Camino: Nice itinerary, with some decent walking and reasonable distances - just right. Good choice of overnight stops as well, and the food - even the Pilgrim Menus - was good and tasty all through. The highlight was probably our stay at St Juan de Ortega.
Lovely trip! Once again Follow The Camino have been excellent. We walked from Logrono to Burgos over five days, all our accommodation was first class. We often left early in the morning and were confidently able to leave our bags at reception knowing they would be waiting for us when we got to our destination later that day. Silvia was great when my walking companion unexpectedly had to leave early. I will be booking with Follow The Camino again, they've been great.
I had a wonderful Camino experience using Follow the Camino to book my trip. I had a medical issue and could not walk one day, and they were extremely helpful and assisted me in making transport arrangements to the next hotel. The customer service is excellent, and the accommodations booked were really great. I would definitely recommend them to others and book with them again.
Camino Frances - Walk Section 4 - Burgos to Sahagun - 123 km
Thank you.. I found your services to be excellent and used you two years ago, and will use you again when I return, maybe next year. The hotels were great, as were the meals and luggage transport. Thank you again !:)))
We loved this section; not everybody's favourite, I'm told, but we'd done a few day's walking, were fit and relaxed and free to enjoy all that was going on around us. Nice scenery, but with little variety, the big plus was the group of friends we made over these days.
It was great to walk only with a small day pack and know your bed for the night is waiting, with your suitcase, at your next destination. Great service and selection of overnight stops. I enjoyed every kilometre.
Camino Frances - Walk Section 5 - Sahagun to Leon - 55 km
It was great to walk only with a small day pack and know your bed for the night is waiting, with your suitcase, at your next destination. Great service and selection of overnights stops. I enjoyed every kilometer. Monika

Camino Frances - Walk Section 6 - Leon to Ponferrada - 101 km
We just came back from our trip Camino de Santiago (section 6 and 7). We were impressed the Camino from Leon to Sarria so much!! We like small charming northern spain villages with beautiful houses, old churches, fantastic cathedrals! All accommodation was perfect. We liked (enjoyed) meals in the hotels during the Camino . The weather was lovely and sunny! We are happy and hope to return on Camino again!
A marvelous experience and am now full of admiration for those early pilgrims.

Camino Frances - Walk Section 7 - Ponferrada to Sarria - 96 km
Having completed the Sarria to Santiago section of the French Camino last year with Follow the Camino we have now done the previous section- Ponferrada to Sarria. This was nicer as regards scenery but that came with a cost as there was more climbing. Overall we really enjoyed the route, the hotels were all lovely, as was the food, and every evening the bags were there waiting for us. Hopefully we can Follow another section of the Camino next year.
Walking, nature, new people, local culture, accommodation with character, endurance test, tranquillity... as far as vacations go, I believe this is as good as it gets! never more an ordinary vacation, but all my resources will be spent on walking holidays in Spain and elsewhere, and preferably with One Foot Abroad – Candan

Camino Frances - Walk Section 8 - Sarria to Santiago - The last 115 km
I joined two friends on the Camino in Sarria, walking the last 100km to earn my compostela. I had arranged for transportation to get me from the airport in Santiago to Sarria upon arrival and I was happy that I did since my Spanish is minimal. We also made reservations for hotel rooms along the way, rather than staying in hostels, because it was a popular time to walk the Camino and because we wanted to make sure we had a place to stay; another good idea. I would definitely recommend this trip. It was worth every step!

Our Camino was the last stage from Sarria to Santiago. We were a bit hesitant to do the Camino since we are seniors in our mid 70s with some health issues. However, we were surprised to find that the planning of the day's suited us just fine and we completed the walk without issues. We were happy and satisfied with the accommodations and meals. The hotels were well diversified to give us a look into the real Spain. The meals were excellent in providing the cuisine of specific areas! Luggage transfers went without a hitch. Our hosts were awesome making sure we felt at home! The people friendly, went out of their way to help us out even with our little Spanish language knowledge! We are extremely happy with "Follow the Camino", and would not hesitate to recommend them to others!
Ad - Longview, Canada
All were pleasant, clean and food was good. Suiza is a little far on after long walk but accommodation was good.
The bags were always waiting for us, the hotels were nice, the people friendly, and the meals were good. Our favorite was Casa Brandariz in Dombodan! What a lovely place! We were treated like old friends. The dinner there was by far the best meal along the way - truly delicious. Walking El Camino was an unforgettable experience. We enjoyed every step and every vista. We had no idea that people along the way would be so kind and considerate. Older people, kids - everybody said a pleasant Buen Camino. Thank you so much for all your help!
My family and I walked the last section of the Camino de Santiago, starting in Sarria. Follow the Camino took all of the stress out of planning for our trip. From the first email everyone I spoke to was courteous and helpful. We had a fantastic time hiking and loved knowing that we already had a hotel booked for the end of each day. The hotels were all in a great location, clean, and comfortable. We had one small issue with a hotel not having our reservation, but after a quick call to Follow the Camino the problem was promptly solved. This was an amazing trip and I would definitely use Follow the Camino again in the future!

I have just returned from the last section of the French Way - April 2013. It was a fantastic experience and have no hesitation in recommending this company. Everything went smoothly, transfers, hotels even the weather!!

Portuguese Way - Walk Section 4 - Porto to Tui - 127 km
One Foot Abroad took all the worry out of our pilgrimage on the Camino. Our accommodations were booked and each day when we arrived tired from several hours of walking, we were always happy to see our luggage waiting for us. Most of the accommodations were right on the trail and the food was excellent. We would definitely book with this company again in the future. Paula
Camino Portugues - Walk Section 5 - Tui to Santiago de Compostela - 115 km
Delighted with the trip. Many very friendly families run hotels with a warm welcome. Luggage was seamlessly taken care of and the walking notes were very clear and good. Some of the breakfasts were a bit light and bland given we had a day walking ahead of us. Evening meals were very very good. Would recommend the seafood and Galicia dishes
The Portuguese way was green with beautiful vineyards and fields of crops. There were many young people; it was well marked and less travelled than the Camino Frances. As a retired couple, we found 20 kilometres per day to be the best distance for us since we enjoyed arriving in each town early enough to tour the historic sites. We hope to walk a different Camino next year!.... Patty and Moses
We had a wonderful week walking the Portuguese way from Tui to Santiago. All the arrangements made by the Follow the Camino Team were faultless. When we did run into trouble on a Sunday because of leaving our instructions locked away in our cases, Sylvia was at the other end of the phone helping us find our hotel. We appreciated that so much, thank you Sylvia. The icing on the cake was arriving at the airport and finding a taxi waiting to bring us straight to Tui. Thank you Team for everything. We have been recommending you to people we met on route, on the plane and to family and friends. Keep up your great service!
We had a great walk from Tui to Santiago de Compostela in September. I would highly recommend Follow the Camino, all services that they provided were excellent!
The trip as an overall experience was amazing. Accommodations were excellent. Provided meals were excessive and excellent. Tour guide recommendations well thought out. Tour guide very competent, incredibly attentive, empathetic, conversed with everyone on an individual basis, and was very motivating (overall excellent at what she did).

Camino Portugues - Walk Section 5 - Rustic - Tui to Santiago de Compostela - 115 km
We had such a lovely trip. The walk, along tree-line paths and past hamlets and vineyards, was so pleasant (and well-marked!). The warm welcome and personal treatment we received in the Casas Rurales was the icing on the cake. My mother and I enjoyed ourselves immensely -- we're even talking about taking on the French Way next! Molly Perry

The Camino was a great success for the team and we are thankful for your efforts and flexibility to plan all the details out.
The transfer of luggage was good and reliable.
Hotels were excellent and next time we hope to stay in the Parador in Pontvedra and change our stay Corcubion to Muxia. Your advice is needed on this change.
Dinners were great and a little too filling especially at 9 pm before a big walk the next morning. Next time we will arrange a simpler meals with an earlier eating time that include soup and tapas.
Transport Santiago to Corcubion was ok. The driver was friendly however the van was old, not well cleaned and had no AC on a warm day. We are grateful that he took us to Finesterra and back to Corcubion.
The Transport with Clever from Corcubion to Oporto was excellent. The drive gave us an extra tour of Guimaraes for an extra cost. The vehicle was super and he was great at explaining the special features of the area and educating us in a gracious way.
Your emergency number needs to be a little easier at times because we called in the evening and had difficult reaching you.Welcome box did not have shells or the John Brierley guide book for each member like One foot abroad sent us for the trip in 2013. This was a nice reference guide to the Camino
Camino del Norte - Walk Section 1 - San Sebastian to Bilbao - 120 km
We had an amazing trip from San Sebastian to Bilbao in June. The scenery surpasses that of the other Caminos and it was also more challenging. Our accommodation was really good and a pleasant end to everyday. I found this company excellent to travel with and will use them again

Our Camino experience went beyond my expectations. The hiking was more challenging than I had imagined. But this made the holiday more rewarding for me because it tested my physical abilities. Walking also let me experience every sight and sound of the land and its people. I fell in love with the Basque country and its people. Our hotels and food were always superb and a wonderful reward for all the physical exercise. I will definitely take another walking holiday with your company! Robin (from Boise, Idaho)

The hotels were fantastic as was the food. The hotel in Santiago was wonderful and gave a real taste of Galician life after a long walk. Bill

Just finished 120K on the Northern Route - Bilbao to Santander. I am in my 60's and can say that it was one of the most enjoyable holidays for a long time. Scenery, organisation and accommodation were all excellent. Next September, we will continue further on that route - eventually reaching Compostella! Ursula.

Camino Primitivo - Section 1 - Oviedo to Lugo 11 Days/10 Nights - 208 km
I walked 6 days of a planned 17 days from Oviedo to Finisterre on the Original (Primitive) camino, but needed to stop because of foot issues. I worked out a situation where I could continue on the route & still see all of the towns & cities. In spite of my disappointment in not walking as I had hoped, I was very pleased with the assistance & cooperation of the Follow The Camino team. I plan to return in 2 years & complete the same route. It was an excellent experience overall. I spoke your praises to everyone I met. Thank you all! Maria

Camino Primitivo - Section 2 - Lugo to Santiago de Compostela 7 Days/6 Nights - 120 km
We thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of our Camino experience. I would consider doing the Camino again, but would prefer to do it over a longer period of time, with shorter walks each day.

Overall my ''Follow the Camino'' walk was an excellent introduction to the pilgrim route I had read so much about. I was impressed with the scenery, the facilities along the route and the other walkers that I met. I will plan to walk other sections of the route as time permits. My main objective was a walking holiday but the spiritual dimension did not escape me
Le Puy Route - Walk Section 2 - Aumont-Aubrac to Conques - 113 km
Reliable and efficient service once again from Follow The Camino.
Pauline - Scotland
My sister and I have returned from walking section 2 of Le Puy way. It really was a life changing experience which exceeded all our expectations. Follow the Camino organised all the details perfectly, and we stayed in the most gorgeous villages along the way. We walked through green pastures and met local farmers and their animals. Strolled alongside babbling brooks and through shady forests. We met many pilgrims along the way and formed close friendships. It is a holiday I would highly recommend to anyone looking to enjoy the beauty of nature and the rich culture of the country.

It was a very nice experience to undertake this journey. Summary of the trip: the body was exhausted but the soul could fly. The Camino has taken me captive.

Via de la Plata - Walk Section 6 - Salamanca to Zamora - 69 km
I loved the whole experience. To my amazement, no matter how large or small the place, my baggage was always there to greet me.
Janette - Australia
Via de la Plata is an amazing experience. As first timers it would have been helpful to have better information before the walk on how to access, contact hotels. We ended up ringing hotels and relying on them to find taxis to collect us. In some locations taxi companies not easily available. Choice, negotiations with hotels were good. We were treated really well. Our luggage always arrived without issue. Keith and Mary

Finisterre Way - Santiago de Compostela to Cape Fisterra - 90 km
As 3rd time returning customers we are so very satisfied with the quality service provided by this exceptionally professional and helpful company who specialise in all things "Camino". From beginning to end it has been a seamless service from all at Follow the Camino and even when we had one very minor slight blip (our error) they had it rectified in minutes!!! The Camino Frances for us has been a truly wonderful experience. This has been due in no small part to the excellent planning by Follow the Camino in collaboration with us regarding our needs etc. They have such a thorough knowledge of the walking routes, always choose great and varied places to stay and arrange a perfect luggage transfer (optional but would recommend so that you can enjoy the experience of walking). We are going all the way to Finestera with this great company. Looking forward to 2016 already. Thank you Silvia, Umberto and ALL at Follow the Camino. We can Highly Recommend your company for an excellent Camino experience.

Having completed the French Way Section 8 last year, and finding the FTC package excellent, especially the baggage transfers, we decided to do the Finisterre Way. The route was varied and very beautiful. Rivers, lakes, ocean, farmland, mountains...excellent weather too. Would highly recommend as a stand-alone trip even. Compliments to Casa Loncho, in Olveiroa, lovely family run rustic accommodation in a beautiful little village...
Denise & Tom - Cork, Ireland
A very organised trip. Excellent hotel in Santiago with the best breakfast of the whole week. Great walking notes, no problem finding route. Lovely to see suitcases awaiting us each evening! The hotel O Semaforo is a must - a truly unique location. Delicious food. Pia in Olveiroa was worth a special mention with delicious homemade food and extremely high standard accommodation. Carol

An absolutely fantastic experience and would highly recommend this trip, the accommodation & hospitality along the way was excellent.

Follow the Camino booked all of our accommodation along the Via Francigena and almost every hotel was to our satisfaction. The staff are easy to communicate with and very responsive.
My husband & I have had one of the best holidays on the Via Francigena. The scenery, weather, and people we met. Best part we had not to think of anything. We came back relaxed and renewed with energy. Looking forward to our next trip in 2013. Thank you.
4 retired teachers walked part of the Via Francigena from Viterbo to Rome using the services of Follow the Camino. The service provided was absolutely first class and all arrangements worked perfectly. Hotels were of a very good quality and all were very conveniently located. We would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending the services of Follow the Camino to fellow walkers.
