Cycling Camino Portugues is a growingly popular route due to the challenge of the varied paths and the pleasant weather of Portugal that is perfect for cycling.
The Portuguese Way or Camino Portugues is the second most popular option after the Camino Frances for reaching Santiago de Compostela. Starting in Lisbon and journeying over unspoiled countryside up through the Alentejo and Central and Northern regions of Portugal. Crossing then into Spain at Tui and continuing through western Galicia you reach the final destination of Santiago de Compostela.
Portugal is renowned for its pleasant climate and sun that shines throughout the year, which makes it prefect conditions to explore by cycling Camino Portugues. With a varied landscape that allows you to ride from hills to beaches and the serenity of the countryside to the liveliness of the city, you will be sure to find something to suit your mood.
The route that we at Follow the Camino recommend you to cycle is from Porto to Santiago de Compostela along the coastal route. On this route you will truly ride between sea, land and sky. Starting in the coastal city of Porto, famous for its stately bridges and Port wine production, you will follow the coast north till Pontevedra where you will then proceed inland through the rolling Galician countryside to Santiago de Compostela. A bonus of this route is also that you will be able to obtain the Compostela (Pilgrim Passport) when you reach Santiago de Compostela.
Included in our cycling tours is the rental of an easy self-assemble bike, which is delivered to your first hotel and with instructions on where to return your bike when you finish your tour. We also provide for free with the bike hire: a helmet, gel saddle, water bottle holder, panier rack and bag and repair kit. For your convenience and reassurance we also include Bike Breakdown Third Party Insurance.
