The total number of Compostelas handed out in 2015 was 262,458 which is nearly 25,000 more than 2014. These pilgrims were from 178 different countries. However this number does not take into account those who didn’t make it as far as Santiago which would be a considerably larger. 2016 is set to be one of the most popular years in recent history with the announcement of the Holy Year of Mercy.
