Hand Picked Accommodation

When you book with Follow the Camino you are in safe hands. We book all your accommodation for you, from our network of local providers. We carefully select hotels and guesthouses based on a number of specific criteria. We look at the location, comfort, services, price, character, and more.

We always try to book accommodation that is on or near the Camino, and also close to the historical quarter or centre of the town/city. In many places, the Camino goes through the heart of towns or cities but if your accommodation is further away from the trail we can arrange transfers.

We constantly re-check our providers and adjust based on your client feedback as well as when new options become available. We are committed to making sure that you have an excellent place to rest at the end of each day!

Stars, Location, or Character?

As part of our standard Camino package, we aim to book hotels and guesthouses of 3-star quality. In smaller towns and villages where these may not be easily available, we choose hotels or guesthouses with at least 2 stars.

However, there could be some exceptions to this rule where we feel that a better option exists for you.

For example, in some small villages, there may not be an accommodation that has been officially rated at 3 or more stars. This does not mean it is not up to our high-quality standards, only that it does not have a recognised classification. There are plenty of hidden gems along the Camino that are absolutely full of character and have incredible services available but have chosen not to apply for a star rating.

In some cases, it may be a choice of a lower-rated (but still lovely) hotel in a superb location rather than a less convenient, highly rated hotel far from the Camino. This could mean staying in a 2-star hotel in a beautiful historic quarter, rather than a 3-star hotel on the outskirts of town. Of course, if this is the case we will let you know so that you can choose the higher-rated option if you prefer.

For Camino Delux bookings we will look for higher star options and boutique luxury stays. Our Budget Camino packages offer simpler rooms or hostel accommodation.

Accommodation Availability on the Camino

The Camino, like most destinations, has high and low seasons. During April, May, June, and September, there are usually more pilgrims on the trails. There are also festivals, Holy Years, and other events that can impact accommodation availability on your chosen route.

If our first choice of accommodation is not available, we will secure for you an alternative of the same standard. In some cases, we may contact you to offer either an upgrade at a premium or a downgrade with a refund if there are no other similar options available. This will all depend on local infrastructure in each area and on the different Camino walking routes.

Our reservations team is highly skilled and knowledgeable, you can trust us with navigating the logistics of your booking while you focus on more enjoyable aspects of trip preparation – like training! We are committed to providing our customers with the best experiences and services available on the Camino.

What to Expect from Your Accommodation on the Camino

By working with our local accommodation partners we can offer you a consistent and wonderful experience. You will be able to choose between different levels of accommodation, depending on your preferences and your budget.

Clean and Hygenic

No matter which level of comfort you choose, you will always have your own room and private bathroom unless you wish to stay in dormitories. Your room will be freshly cleaned to a very high standard of hygiene.

We know that this is especially important after Coronavirus, so we are working with our accommodation providers along the Camino to make sure that they are all at the right level. Where it is appropriate, we will recommend accommodation that is externally accredited with safe travel standards.

Bags Delivered

Your bags will be delivered to your room or looked after at reception until you arrive. On the rare occasion that you might arrive before your luggage, it will be brought to you when it arrives. You will also have access to our 24/7 phone support number, should you have any questions about luggage transfer during your trip.

Food Close By

We always give preference to hotels with their own restaurant and chefs so you don’t have to wander too far at the end of a long day. If none are available, then we will make sure you are close to popular and authentic restaurants.

Expect traditional meals or tapas prepared with the best fresh, regional and mouth-watering products.

If you join one of our Follow the Camino Guided Tours, we reserve a table at the end of each walking day for you and the group at one of our pre-tested and loved restaurants. It is all part of our service.

If you would like to have your dinners included, please let us know. We can also help you with dietary requirements and allergies. Simply let us know about them when you book.
