Walk from St Jean-de-Pied-de-Port in France across the Pyrenees to Pamplona, called also 'La Route de Napoleon'... But you could also call it the Heming-Way!

This first section of the Camino is arguably one of the most scenic, challenging and rewarding of all the itineraries we offer. In only five days, you will experience French gastronomy, follow the trace of Napoleon across a 1,500m mountain, cross the legendary Basque country and arrive in one of Hemingway's favourite cities ever: Pamplona.

We recommend this tour to anyone looking for an alternative to the last 100km of the French Way, the most popular section. This is where most of the pilgrim's walking the Camino start their journey and the atmosphere on the Way is simply incredible.

If you are a fan of Hemingway's, plan for your journey to end in Pamplona for the San Fermin or Bull Run Festival. It is an un-missable experience you will still be talking about it years!

Why book now for the San Fermines?

The seven-day festival of San Fermin in Pamplona on the first section of the French Way is one of the most famous and exciting of all Spanish Festivals. Why is it so famous I hear you say? Not just because of great food and wine of Navarra, the excellent atmosphere of Spanish Festival, but because they have the biggest Running of the Bulls in the World!

The Running of the Bulls is a practice that involves running in front of a small group of bulls that have been let loose, on a course of a sectioned-off subset of a town's streets. You might have read about this in Hemmingway's first and most celebrated novel The Sun Also Rises which is set in the 1925 San Fermin.

The Festival runs from the 6th to the 14th of July but book early to avoid disappointments!

Special offer stay in a quiet 3* hotels near the festivities for only €90 per night per person! Call +353 1 52 52 221 or email info@followthecamino.com to book.
