Day 1 - Sarria
You will be booked in a hotel in the heart of the
lively town of Sarria. The rooms are en-suite.

DAY 2 – Sarria to Portomarin (6h 23km +230m -300m)
Today is the most peaceful part of the Camino, offering oak wood
for shade, pretty villages, quiet country roads and many churches
with statues and frescoes. The village of Barbedelo (580m) has a
beautiful Romanesque church that is worth the visit. The next significant
village is Ferreiros, passing by long narrow rectangular “stones
on legs” typical of the region. Arriving in Portomarin (550m),
try the bakery that makes the pride of the locals: the “Torta
de Santiago”, hmm!

DAY 3 – Portomarín to Palace do Rei (6h15 23km +340m -140m)
From the village, the Camino crosses the river Minho and climbs
steadily uphill for half of the leg. On your way, you will be crossing
Gonzar and passing the Romanesque Church of Santa María,
Castromaior. The quietness of the Galician Cemetery in Ligonde on
a sunny day is a rest on its own. In Eirexe, the handmade Romanesque
portal of the church is a beauty and features a sculpture of Daniel
and animals as well as Santiago de Peregrino inside. You will then
arrive in Palas do Rei (565m).

DAY 4 – Palace do Rei to Arzùa (7h 28km +140m -340m)
The Camino today keeps going slightly downhill, passing the village
of “Casanova”, and the charming paved street village
of Leboreiro. Coming to Melide (454m), you can stop in one of the
many restaurants to try their famous squid. Later today, the Camino will
follow a forest track and cross several streams bringing you to the
village of Boente and its church of Santiago, the medieval village
of Ribadiso, and finally Arzùa (389m). The small town has
2 churches that you can visit, Santa María and La Magdalena.
NOTE: If you wish to take your time, we
can split this walking day in 2 (15km & 13km), staying overnight
in the bustling market town of Melide. Here you will stay in a charming
2* hotel in front of the "refugio de peligrino", in the
center of the town.

DAY 5 – Arzùa to Rùa-O Pino (5h15 18km +50m -130m)
This shaded section of the Camino will pass through woods, along
streams, and sleepy villages. Take your time and visit the chapel
of Santa Irena, with its unique statues of Santiago. The rest of
the way to Rua/Opino is on a good and quiet country road. This
will be your last night before Santiago. Rúa (310m) is an
intermediate stopping point that is less crowded than others before
Santiago. Enjoy a good night’s sleep remembering the way you
travelled. The last stretch is just coming…

Town: ATM, shops. All facilities. Hotel: 2* hotel. This renovated 19th century country house, has been converted into a beautiful "Agritourism". The friendly owner "QUICO" will show you around, the large garden and swimming pool. en-suite.

DAY 6 –Rúa to Santiago de Compostela (5h20 19km +150m -186m)
You are nearly there. You can feel civilization taking over again
as the Camino pass by Amenal. The next stage will be Lavacolla where pilgrims
traditionally washed in the river before reaching Santiago de Compostela.
The tall eucalyptus trees will accompany you to Monte del Gozo (368m)
and its huge modern sculpture from where you can see the Cathedral
of Santiago. You are on the “Mount of Joy” and you can
start your final descent to Santiago de Compostela (264m, population
80000). Finally, you reach the place of most interest in Santiago,
its Cathedral. Partly Romanesque, and partly Baroque, this wonder
will amaze you. You can take some time to visit it before settling
down in your luxurious hotel for the last night of your trip. The
spirit of Saint James nearby, the memories of your trip will buzz
around your head.

DAY 7 – Santiago de Compostela
After breakfast we bid you farewell.
If you wish to stay in the area,
we recommend you:
- To take your time and visit the magnificent historic center.
- Continue with us along the wild "Camino Fisterra" (Finisterre Way), and stay overnight in the 2* hotel in the light house!
- Visit the sandy coves and beaches of the west coast. Unique, remote,
unspoiled, and not touristy you will be amazed... Ask us!

Best to fly to Santiago de Compostela
Ryanair and Iberia/BA fly direct to Santiago de Compostela from the UK. Ryanair fly from Stansted, Nottingham East Midlands and Liverpool and Aer Lingus operates from Dublin.
Many of the flights that arrive at the airport are from internal Spanish flights. Iberia and Spanair offer the best selection of flights and you can fly to and from Santiago De Compostela from: Frankfurt, Paris and Rome and Barcelona, Bilbao, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Madrid, Malaga, Palma, Seville, Tenerife (north and South) and Valencia.
Ryanair now flies, from Madrid to Santiago de Compostela, year round twice a day.

To the beginning of the trip: Sarria
(about €15pp) Everyday. A combination of 2 buses, it's fairly easy:
1 - Santiago airport to Lugo 16h10, 18h40 (1h45). See web in english: www.empresafreire.com
2 - Lugo to Sarria (30'). Many bus a day, until late. www.monbus.es and look for "Horarios" on the left
