8 Days/7 Nights camino frances section compostela santiago Half Board hotels en-suite year round From €680

The French Way is the most traditional of all the pilgrims' ways to Santiago and the best known internationally.

4th section of the Camino Frances. Starting from Burgos, the medieval city and hometown of "El Cid", and finishing in Sahagun, town renowned for its unique Roman churches. At first hilly in Palencia, you will reach the vast Castilian Plateau (900m).

At each stage, you are guaranteed a great level of comfort and gastronomy. The trail marking is extremely well done with the “Scallop Shell” showing you the way. The walk requires a good physical condition. However, it’s a highly rewarding walk including numerous great cultural highlights.

PuceDay 1 - Coming to Burgos
You will be pre-booked in a traditional hotel in the heart of the town.
Burgos, a city in Castilla-Leon situated on the Pilgrim's Road to Santiago de Compostela, still preserves important vestiges of its medieval splendour. The city, which was the capital of the unified kingdom of Castilla-Leon for five centuries, boasts a masterpiece of Spanish Gothic architecture: the Cathedral of Burgos, declared World Heritage. Aside from a visit to the historic quarter, you can take quite an interesting walk along the banks of the Duero and Arlanza rivers. Great places to try a delicious, varied cuisine.

PuceDay 2 - Burgos To Hornillos del Camino (5h15, 20km, +120m -240m)
From Burgos you will go through the stepped crop fields that are typical of the region, covered with little streams and bleak plateaus. You will cross some small woods of holm oaks, and conifers, which serve as memory of the time when one of the largest forests in Europe existed on these lands. As there is no accommodation available in the village we will pick you up at 4pm, and bring you back to your hotel in Burgos for the night.

The river Pisuerga brings you into the province of Palencia, and on into the "Tierra de Campo". Don't miss Boadilla and its XIVth century church "La Asuncion", reputed for its Gothic Pillory, and beautifully carved baptismal font.

The route today carries on in a straight line beside a country road. Numerous rest areas have been set out along the path. Passing Villalxazar de Sirga, you will come across a good example of a Campos village: few houses and inhabitants, but an impressive church full of treasures
