Camino Frances

Camino Frances or the French Way

Camino Frances: the most celebrated Camino, our best seller!

The Camino Frances or French Way is the most traditional of all the pilgrims' ways to Santiago de Compostela, dating from the Codex Calixtinus (12th century). It is by far the most celebrated and the best known internationally. In the Medieval times, thousands of pilgrims, mostly coming from France, were walking the French Way to reach the Tomb of the Apostle Saint James the Great.

Recently, the film "The Way", directed by Emilio Estevez and starring Martin Sheen, has rejuvenated interest to this most ancient pilgrimage. Furthermore, books from Shirley MacLaine "Journey of the Spirit", and Paulo Coehlo "The Pilgrimage", have created a new enthusiasm for the Camino.

The Camino Frances is an amazing journey, favoured by most pilgrims and many at Follow the Camino.

This Camino crosses some of the most beautiful parts of Spain, passing through great cities like Pamplona, Leon and Burgos. It reaches many very important pilgrimage towns, such as Saint Jean Pied de Port, Logrono and Sarria.

Since 2006, Follow the Camino has invented a new innovative way to walk the French Way, creating 8 manageable sections, each of them with 6-7 days, where you stay each night in carefully selected and regularly assessed, authentic accommodation (family owned hotels, genuine casa rurales, great pensiones), enjoying the social and cultural scene while having the freshest local food and drinks!

Camino Tours Testimonials

"Having just come back from 5 days on the Camino - the French Way, all I can say is what an amazing experience and challenge it was, one must go and try some part of it. It’s an unforgettable experience, where you see amazing places and meet really nice and interesting people. I will definitely go back and do some more of it."
